American Fords got the all-new overhead valve V8 in 1954, the flathead V8 was replaced in 1955 in Canadian Ford and Mercury trucks. Before 1957, only V8 engines were installed in all Canadian Ford and Mercury cars and trucks. Collectors Item In 1955 Ford produced a real collectors item. Parcel Delivery trucks were not made in Canada, so a very small number were converted from US made Ford Parcel Deliverys to Mercury Parcel Deliverys. They had the standard name plate and light trim changes, then were shipped into Canada and sold as Canadian Mercurys. The standard engine used in the Deliverys was Ford's six-cylinder, which was not yet used in Canadian production. Thus they became the first Mercury trucks made with six-cylinder engines. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
