MERCURY TRUCKS FOR 1951
The Garage Operator, January, 1951
Mercury trucks for 1951 in nine Series from one-half to five-ton
capacity, and offered in a range of more than 80 model variations,
including cab-over-engine units, were shown for the first time in
Mercury-Lincoln-Meteor dealerships across Canada on Friday, January 5.
Steering column gear shift in the half-ton models, a new
carburetion-ignition control, and an improved cab are among the features
of the new trucks. There are a choice of three V-type eight-cylinder
engines to meet the individual power requirements of the light, medium and
heavier duty models.
Ford engineers explain that the automatic power pilot carburetion-ignition
control on all engines was designed to provide power with economy by
metering and firing the correct amount of fuel under varying loads without
spark knock.
A new deluxe cab is optional equipment in the 1951 truck fleet. It is
sound-proofed with insulation and undercoating. The full-width seat has
foam rubber padding under the cover. The cab's interior has full length
passenger car-type door trim with arm rests an both doors and other
passenger car interior refinements, while the rear view window is enlarged
to more than three and a half feet in longitudinal with for full range
vision.
The instrument panel incorporates easy visible instruments, rheostat type
instrument switch and hand throttle.
The standard three-speed transmission on the lighter-duty models has been
redesigned for service on maximum loads, with constant mesh, helical gears
having synchronizers in second and third speeds. |
